Each December, Flagstaff’s Winter Wonderland & Tree Lighting transforms Heritage Square into a glowing festival of lights, music, and community spirit—this year it kicks off on December 7. Locals and visitors gather under the twinkling trees, sip hot cocoa, enjoy live performances, and count down to the magical moment when the mayor and Santa flip the switch. Stroll through decorated windows, mingle with carolers and artisans, and soak in the warm glow against snowy surroundings. It’s a signature event that captures the heart and holiday cheer of Flagstaff.
From December 7 through January 5, Flagstaff offers enchanting horse-drawn carriage rides through its snow-dusted historic downtown. Departing from the Visitor Center each weekend, these rides glide past festooned storefronts and glowing lights, letting you soak in the holiday ambiance at a gentle pace. It’s a romantic and family-friendly way to experience the city’s winter charm under the hush of falling snow.
Beginning Saturday, November 30 and running through December, Flagstaff’s Winter Movie Series invites the community to cozy up at The Orpheum Theater for classic holiday films. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. for crafts and mingling, and the show starts at 10:00 a.m.—a perfect morning escape. With themes of nostalgia, community, and laughter, it’s a warm indoor treat during Flagstaff’s colder days.
Flagstaff’s Holiday Shopping Passport program runs from November 29 through January 1, encouraging visitors and locals to explore and shop local downtown businesses. It kicks off with “Slack Friday” on November 29, offering a relaxed and festive alternative to hectic big-box shopping. Collect stamps while browsing charming shops and cafés, and earn entries for prizes while supporting Flagstaff’s small businesses. It’s a season-long celebration of local commerce wrapped in holiday cheer.
